Thanks for sharing your question. To answer, yes it is possible to get into MBA programs with gaps in your profile. We have worked with many candidates with career gaps and helped them secure an admit to ISB. However, please note that these are highly personalized journeys, and there is no standard framework to answer what you should or should not do during this time.

If you would like to discuss in detail, feel free to book a dedicated call discussion session with us to discuss and chart a path for yourself.

There are many candidates who make it to top B schools across the world, including ISB, with a career gap. The admissions decision is based on a lot of factors such as academic history, test scores, work experience, extracurricular involvements etc. The decision usually is not based on a singular point such as a career gap.

However, it is important to explain the career gap well. Taking online courses, pursuing a certification like CFA, or working on relevant projects during a career gap can certainly help to show that you have been productive during your break and gaining some relevant skills.

If you do not explain the gap well though, it can surely end up being a weakness in your overall application. So be thoughtful and transparent when explaining the gap and also try to compensate for it by highlighting your strengths and accomplishments from other areas of your profile.

We at Admit expert have helped numerous candidates with significant work gaps or academic inconsistencies make it into ISB. On of Admit Expert's top consultants secured an admit to Tepper with a one year career gap.

We have the right resources and talent to help you. For a more detailed 1-1 strategy session, please write to contactus@admitexpert.com or fill the form at http://www.admitexpert.com

Good luck!

AnandRB:

Absolutely. A career gap is not a deal breaker whatsoever especially if it's related to family matters. You can explain this in either a required essay or an optional one. Don't fret.

The only question is why you are applying to get an MBA now if you have this gap and only a few years of work experience. Why not wait another year so the gap means even less? The gap won't count against you but the time won't obviously go towards your total years of experience. Just something to consider...
