Hi,

I would like to get my profile evaluated and receive suggestions for B-schools that I should target.

I am a 32yr old Indian Male, Commerce graduate, working in Trade Finance at a mid-sized Public Sector Bank in India.

Education:
B Com - 66%
Masters in Financial Services - 6.08/8.0 (76%)
Certifications:
Certified Associate if Indian Institute of Bankers
Diploma in Treasury, Investment and Risk Management
GMAT: 680 (Q 48 / V 35)

Work Experience:
8 years in commercial banking with exposure to numerous verticals and with clients ranging from small farmers in rural areas to mid- and large corporates in metropolitan cities.

Senior Manager
• Currently working as in-charge of Trade Finance Department
• Contributed 40% of total branch income in F.Y. 2020-21, through Trade Finance operations
• Managed teams of 4-5 people in this period

Manager
• Worked as Branch Manager with a team of 4 people and handled a wide range of portfolios including deposits, retail loans, agricultural loans and small business loans
• Reduced non-performing assets (NPAs) of my branch from 10% to 2% of total loans
• Secured corporate tie-up arrangement of Rs. 9.00 crores (USD 1.3 million) with a local sugar factory at Yadgir for disbursal of agricultural loans to farmers
• Moved to Mumbai and was introduced to Trade Finance – gained experience working with large and mid-corporates
• Resolved GST related reporting issues for clients by co-ordinating with Accounts team at H.O. and helping them identify errors in the GST reporting process.

Assistant Manager
• Joined as Probationary Officer and worked at various locations in multiple commercial banking roles
• Was one of the first people in my batch to be selected as Branch Manager and was given charge of a new branch with a team of 3 people

Assistant Manager – Claims (Legal) - worked for 6 months in an Insurance company prior to banking experience
• Managed Motor Accident Claims with responsibilities including managing panel lawyers, local claim investigators, preparing defence for cases and negotiating with claimants for out of court settlements.

Extra Curriculars/Achievements:
• Conducting Tree-plantation drives and organizing free basic health check-up camps as part of Bank's CSR activities
• Recreational Reading
• Writing articles - Published an article on ‘Politics and Terrorism’ in the SBM Jain College’s annual magazine, ‘Reflections’
• Recently took up a hobby in fountain pens

Post MBA Goals:
I hope to switch to consulting (financial consulting, ops or strategy consulting) and plan B is to stay in the financial services sector (IB or Commercial Banking). I am not sure if a career switch would make my application less desirable to AdComs and any advice regarding this would be appreciated

In my opinion, UK and European b-schools would be a better fit given my age and GMAT score. I would like to get some suggestions about which schools I can target. Also, will Canada be a good option for me?

Thanks in advance for your help

Hi Aayush,

Thanks for sharing your profile and MBA aspirations.

My name is Priyanka, Client Manager at ARINGO.

You have a very interesting profile! From what I can see:

Academics – Having both Bachelor’s and Master’s is good. Additional certifications demonstrate your willingness to learn and grow 😊.

Work Experience –Your experience is good and the impact of the work is quantified well. Good promotions and managerial skills add more value. However, the overall experience & age is on a higher side than the class average of B schools. Also, no international experience is another missing aspect from your profile.

Extracurricular activities/Volunteer Work – Being involved in CSR activities coupled with some interesting hobbies- Good!

Schools – Considering all the factors (including your GMAT), you can apply to HEC, IESE, IMD as a stretch. More realistic: IE, ESADE, Bocconi, ESMT, RSM in EU or Warwick, Manchester, Imperial or Cass in the UK (Basically any school that isn’t INSEAD, LBS, OXFORD, Cambridge)

And yes, can apply to Canadian schools too (mainly if you can show some sort of experience working with international teams).

All in all, sounds like you have a good profile (barring a few points)! If you send me your CV and other info on PRIYANKAK@ARINGO.com, I would love to connect you with our CEO who will be happy to help further with a detailed review and perhaps work together on some amazing apps.

All the best. :)

Hi NJ97,

Thanks for sharing your profile and MBA aspirations.

My name is Priyanka, Client Manager at ARINGO.

From the given details, I would suggest taking the exam again and applying for next year's intake. As you come from an over-representative pool of candidates, 650 is not very competitive. Your minimum target score should be the average score of the schools you wish to apply to.

Also, with an additional year of experience (and an improved GMAT score) your chances will be better in the given list of schools. You will have a chance to highlight your managerial skills and the impact of your work with more concrete data.

All the best. :)

Hi Shrujal,

Thanks for sharing your profile and MBA aspirations.

My name is Priyanka, Client Manager at ARINGO.

You have a very interesting profile! From what I can see:

Academics – Strong GPA and good percentile. Participating in college activities beyond the coursework is another positive point.

GMAT - Well, 730 is a fine score!

Work Experience – While your experience looks good coupled with international exposure, the details are limited. We would like to see your resume to understand your roles and responsibilities, the impact of your work, managerial/leadership skills, etc. better.

Extracurricular activities/Volunteer Work – Being actively involved in volunteering work makes your profile stronger. We would also like to know the NGO that you are about to start. Tell us about your hobbies and interests, as well.

Your career goals/School list - Your career goals look fine as this is a logical extension of what you are doing presently but will be able to give more insights once you share your CV. The school list is well thought of but again please share your CV for better insights 😊

All in all sounds like you have a good profile! If you send me your CV at PRIYANKAK@ARINGO.com, I would love to connect you with our CEO who will be happy to help further with a detailed review and perhaps work together on some amazing apps.

All the best. :)

yes, if your BA was three years, from an accredited institution, then yes, Sauder and other MBA programs will accept this.. (natrually, it is all down to your GMAT, profile, GPA and application, but the BA will not be the issue)
GOOD LUCK!

The simple answer is Yes
You will need to have the minimum IELTS / TOEFL score for every school you apply to be considered, otherwise, they might (with a high chance) not even review your application just on this basis

I have seen exceptions, but those are rare and I would not count on them...
Good luck!

Most business schools require you to send your official GMAT scores via the GMAC system (yes, a bit more money to spend, sorry!)
GOOD LUCK!

Is there any advantage if some got waitlisted in R1 vs R2, if both are being evaluated after second or 3rd round

spal0007 wrote:Is there any advantage if some got waitlisted in R1 vs R2, if both are being evaluated after second or 3rd round

Well, that is the first time I am getting this question :)
And not sure why you would ask this? if you and someone else were waitlisted, you in R1 and he in R2, and you will both be evaluated inR3, naturally, your profiles are what matters to the school, and not, when you each applied.

In theory, it is best to apply as early as possible, when your application is ready. and if you are WL, hope for the best.
Some schools evaluate waitlists on a rolling basis, some on specific dates.
Each school works differently in this regard.
GOOD LUCK
