Hello igtheog9987,

Thanks for writing in.

We would definitely encourage you to retake your GMAT, with special focus on your quant percentile, as there is still some time before the peak of the applications cycle kicks in.

You would have a good chance at making it to your dream program provided you improve your score (720 would be a good score) and put forth a set of essays that adequately demonstrate your achievements and skills while also focusing on a set of career goals that sync with all that you have done so far. Unfortunately, details pertaining to both aspects are missing from your post at the moment.

Good luck!

Hi igtheog9987 hope this finds you in good health

Seems to me that your quant score is around 48-49 on the GMAT. Please note that as an Indian applicant a sub-optimal quant score can diminish your admit chances to top global MiM programs more than a sub-optimal verbal score. If you already have a Q49+, you can still compete in the Indian demographic if you have stellar achievements in other areas such as school academics, community work, professional stint, and so on. If your quant score is <49, suggest you plan a subsequent attempt to attain the target score in a timely manner.

In your narrative focus on the aspects that differentiate you from the Indian software engineer pool. For example, pitch yourself as a technical project leader focused on a certain industry (banking in your case), who has worked on conflict resolutions with multiple stakeholders. Show how you have grown from an individual contributor to a project manager at work, with additional responsibilities awarded by management due to your performance and conscientious decision-making skills. Create such a strong narrative that it makes it difficult for the school to disregard your candidature :)
You haven't talked about your ECs or other differentiating factors of your profile but they will be of relevance.

If you are looking for professional guidance and some profound deep dive sessions on narrative building at the time of your applications, you can reach out to me.

Best wishes

Hi. I'd be grateful to have my profile evaluated.

Indian Female | 26 years | 3 years of work experience
Aiming for 720+ on GMAT.

Qualifications:
Xth: 10/10 CGPA
XIIth: 92.4%
Undergrad: 8.67/10 CGPA (B.Tech in Civil Engineering) ( Manipal Institute of Technology, MAHE)

Work Experience:

1. 7 months in TCS as Assistant System Engineer for a UK-based client.
2. 1 year 5 months of work experience at an Indian eCommerce company. Worked here as a Product Analyst. Here's the caveat. The company had to downsize during the pandemic because of which they had to send many of their employees on indefinite leave without pay. Unfortunately, I was one of those employees. So on paper, I have an experience of 1 year 5 months at this company, but effectively it was 9 months.
3. Founder of an online sustainable jewelry brand that works with artisan clusters across India. (Registered in 2021) (2021-Present)

Extra-curricular:

1. Yoga enthusiast. I will get my teacher certification soon. Really passionate about mindfulness.
2. Graduate in Indian classical music.
3. Managed a team of 10 members for an event conducted during the technical festival in college.
4. Managed a team of two content writers for college festivals.
5. Junior Editor for Civil Department's official newsletter.
6. Workshops Head for Civil Department's official tech club while at college.
7. Avid reader.

Community Service:
1. Active volunteer for Zomato Feeding India, Guwahati Chapter.
2. I mentor underprivileged students under Avasar Foundation.

Post-MBA goal:

My long-term goal is to start a fashion tech startup with ethical and sustainable practices at its forefront and address the problems of textile surplus, over-production, and lack of proper upcycling practices. My current start-up is also built upon similar ideas. However, I do lack the vast understanding needed in the fashion industry. Hence my immediate goal post-MBA will be to work at similar conscious fashion brands to really dig my teeth into the challenges and understand ways to solve those. I wish to work in the European market. I will also continue working on my current start-up post MBA. Over the past few years, I have developed an active interest in sustainable practices and ways of living and would love to explore its scope in business post-MBA.

Target Schools: LBS, Wharton, Columbia, Stanford, Rotman, and ISB.

Kindly evaluate my profile.

Major concerns: 1. Work Experience, 2. Lack of international exposure

Please suggest any other schools for which my profile may be a good fit. I wish to specialize in Marketing.

Thanks a ton!

Hi Amritaroy1995,

Thanks for writing in.

The entrepreneurial experience on your profile stands out and will help differentiate you from other applicants. You could always link your experience in the eCommerce domain to the start-up you are currently running. The post MBA goals sound alright but we are not sure if we entirely get why you would want to start another start-up. A more logical trajectory would be:
a) Join a bigger company in a similar domain in the short-term and use the learnings from your job + MBA training to take your existing venture forward in the long term.
b) Come back to the existing venture after the MBA; use your MBA networks and learning to expand it.

Of course, it is for you to decide what would work better. However, introducing another venture at this point, may not be the best plan.

Coming to the GMAT score, we would say a 720 works for Rotman and ISB; however, for the US top ~10 schools, we would definitely urge you to improve your score. That is not to say that people do not make it with a 720 on the GMAT; however, as you belong to an over-represented pool of applicants, a spike would definitely help.

Should you feel the need for a detailed profile evaluation, please drop us a message and we will take it forward.

Good luck!

I would really appreciate if you can review my profile and let me know if I should retake the GMAT.

Target Schools:
Dream - INSEAD, LBS, Cambridge, HEC
Realistic - IESE, Mannheim, WHU, IE
Safe - Manchester, Warwick

Profile -

Academics:
- School: 85%+ (almost always among the top 3 in my class)
- Graduation (Engg.): 8.5 CGPA {50% scholarship}
- Post-Graduation - MBA(from one of the top 10 Bschools in India): 3.4 CGPA {Full Scholarship student}
(Studied French for 2 semesters - though not proficient at it anymore but can relearn - had decent grades in this subject)

Work Experience:
- About 2 years experience in a one of the top e-commerce startup in India. (Was among the top performers and worked with some of the leading brands in India)
- About 6 years of ed-tech experience

    - 2 years of experience as a product manager (once again top performer - helped launched 2-3 important products that had a positive impact on revenue - revenue growth of 2-3x)
    - 4 years of experience as a product lead (part of the founding team) - global product (worked with international clients, helped grow the firm exponentially - esp. with little to no funding)

Add ons
- Part of student body council during my post-grad
- NGO experience of close to 6 months
- Have a few certifications in data science, analytics, finance (Passed with top grades)
- GMAT - 710 (not planning to retake for now - score is 4 years old though - so, should I retake?)

Goal
- Short term goal (Work as Senior Product Manager for a tech firm - looking to gain international perspective and work with people from different backgrounds/culture) - my previous MBA or my jobs have not provided me with learning or perspective - hence the decision of 2nd MBA.
- Long term goal (Interested in using tech and my PM experience to build my own firm - one idea being in edtech focusing more on K12 helping children gain quality ed tech at very low cost across the globe. Though I am open to other options too - fintech (making lending easy for SMEs).. main point is to leverage tech and product experience to create a global impact firm.
- Want to stay in UK/Germany.

On concern regarding my safe and realistic school is post MBA salary. I am already currently close to $50k in India. Most of these school avg around $75K which is making me rethink my decision about my school selection.

Hello n2022gmat,

Thanks for sharing details pertaining to your profile with us.

You seem to have solid work experience that comes with a fair bit of impact and your post-MBA career goals too look in good sync. So, if you are able to tie your strengths and achievements through a set of compelling essays, we feel you have a strong chance.

Coming to the GMAT, if you are targetting schools such as INSEAD, LBS, and Cambridge, you must definitely look at improving your GMAT score to have a more realistic chance of making it.

The best way to get an understanding of the job prospects is to directly speak with alumni. The risk of a lower salary will always be there if you are looking at a slightly lower-ranked program. However, you may want to look at it as only a fall back option. :-)

Hope we were able to answer your questions.

All the best!

Dear ExpertsGlobal,
My name is Neha Chandrachud and I bought the Experts Global 15mock bundle last week.

I have given two mocks and today is the 2nd time this is happening.
I can see that I had marked different answers while solving the mock and I see different options marked when I am reviewing.

For example, this is the 1st question in Mock3- QR.
I had marked Option A but it shows E here.

Please help resolve this issue at the earliest as I have my exam in next 7 days.

Thank you.

Hi,
Please help with my profile evaluation

Age: 26
Gender: Male
Nationality: Indian

Qualification and Scores:
Ranked among top 3 in Secondary and Higher Secondary School
B.Tech Chemical Engineering from IIT - 9.42 GPA (Top 3 Percentile)
GMAT - 750 (Q51 V40 IR7)
Research Scholarship during undergrad and Rural Merit Scholarship for pursuing Undergrad

Work Experience :
51 months work ex in Business Development at IndianOil

My tasks till now

Involved working from the market entry of a cleaner fuel alternative to its retailing. This involved holding multiple direct discussions with various stakeholders ranging from various ministries to municipal commissioners to regulatory authorities as well as financial institutions. As a subject matter expert, I am currently a part of managerial level discussions that involve the Chairman as well as the Petroleum Minister in future roadmap creation activity for a Government initiative. Currently, I also lead the team which is working towards revamping the data management portal for 3 Oil Manufacturing Companies (OMCs): the team involves 30 odd officers combined from all OMCs.

Also in collaboration with MOPNG, I had headed the publicity plan for a pan India Govt initiative aimed at strategically targeting tier 1 and tier 2 cities for increasing market penetration of the alternative clean fuel.

Major initiatives: Designed the temporary database responsible for MIS creation for Ministry from scratch, which has lead to the idea of the current in-progress portal.
Designed a complete training module for the induction of officers in the newly formed department.
Managed a team of 8 officers in past.
Reached milestone of 10000 tons of product sold across India.

Promoted twice

Extra-Curricular:

I have worked on multiple CSR initiatives focussing on solving major problems like river pollution near pilgrimage sites, sanitary pad machine setup for access to women at affordable prices as well as biogas plant installation in parts of North India for provision of free food in community kitchens to 2000 villagers.
Have been a part of the Company's Business Development Cricket squad
At present, I am also preparing for Trinity College Grade 1 Piano Exam
During College I have been a coordinator for various events as well as winner in multiple case study events.

International Exposure: Full funded 3-month Research Internship at one of Germany's top universities.

Post-MBA goals: Work in a Management Consulting firm focussing on providing clean energy solutions to large enterprises.

I have no clue about target colleges to apply in USA and would really appreciate if you could throw some light on the colleges

Thanks in advance

Hello rahul2006,

Thanks for writing in.

Your fine pedigree, solid GPA, and strong GMAT score are bound to give you a strong chance at some of the US top ~15 to US ~20 schools (with good scholarship opportunities as well). It is good to see your stable profile, complete with managerial experience as well as some strong talking points in terms of achievements.

With a base ready, it is going depend a lot on how you articulate your skill set, strengths, and achievements through a compelling narrative. We would want to keep the goals slightly broader as specifying energy might lead to a problem of niche. Therefore, purely talking about management consulting would also work in your case.

In terms of schools, if you wish to go for some highly ambitious schools, Haas and Duke would make sense. We would, however, advise a more balanced portfolio (especially because you will now be applying in Round 2) that also includes some US top ~15 schools.

Happy to discuss your prospects over a detailed profile evaluation session. Should you feel the need for the same, please feel free to get in touch with us.

Thanks.

Hello phoenix2194,

Thanks for sharing your query with us.

Your strong GMAT score will definitely help compensate for your undergrad score and your years of work experience are ideal for ISB.

Frankly, if you put together a set of compelling essays that adequately demonstrate your skill-set and achievements as well as showcase a strong connection between your professional experience and future goals, you have a very good chance at making it to ISB.

Nothing is impossible on the goals front and there are many who pursue the PGP for a career switch. That said, showcasing goals in PM without an IT background will not be your strongest case; it will not be straightforward as well. Having a story in which the dots add up is what will give you your best chance.

Should you wish to discuss this in greater detail, please feel free to get in touch with us for a free profile evaluation session.

All the best!

Hello eden123hazard,

Thanks for writing in.

A 690 is definitely at least 20 points under the average at ISB and it would have been great to see a higher score there. That said, whether you should apply in R3 completely depends on your preparation level and how confident you feel about improving your score.

In so far as your achievements go (on all fronts), you have not shared details pertaining to the same; hence, we are unable to provide you with detailed feedback; overall, your goals need to be more structured (BD roles sound vague); besides, a lot depends on whether you are able to improve your score and how well you are able to tell your story through a compelling narrative.

Should you feel the need for a detailed discussion, kindly reach out to us.

All the best!

Dear eden123hazard,

To start with, I am sure you are aware that the R2 Deadlines have been extended by a week and is NOW on 4th Dec. Not sure if that gives you sufficient time to prepare and bump up your score, but that’s potentially an option.

Back to your profile, below is our objective evaluation:

GMAT: Lower than average

Academics: Average (while your 10th and 12th scores are commendable, a below par CGPA from a Tier 3 Engineering Institute pulls you down)

Work Experience: Transition from banking to IT services, and from PSU to a MNC would definitely pique interests of the ad com. You need to play it your strength by capturing the motivation behind this switch and transferrable skillsets you gained in the former that allowed you to excel in your current role. Solving financial problems at scale through PSU bank experience and having exposure to global finance through Cognizant tenure should be highlighted in your application via compelling stories.

Goals: The fact that you want to leverage your domain expertise in the field of banking and finance and want to take up senior roles in the same industry post MBA showcases that you are practical and realistic in terms of your aspirations, and you understand the value an MBA can bring.

Extracurricular: Difficult to comment because of lack of information. Do note that showing leadership via EC involvements can prove to be a differentiating factor. So try to retrospect around what sort of endeavors have you been involved in besides work.

Please note that you fall in the highly represented and competitive pool of Indian Male IT applicants. Hence it is very important for you to demonstrate uniqueness both in terms of the impact you have been able to create at work, as well as professional attributes / endeavors outside work. Right now, I can not see any of it based on the limited information you have provided in the blurb.

Feel free to reach out to us in case you seek professional guidance.

Cheers and all the very Best !!
