Hi Brittany! :)

Jun 15, 2021

Hi Brittany, good morning. I have a question about how deviating from your plan post graduation (Banking) to work for your Family Business for a year and then going back to Banking is seen by admissions committees.

Notes for you below!

2) = often you must choose to submit just one, but where you can submit both, they consider the higher -- I might just send one/the higher

3) = this one is tough! shouldbe fine if they were a past supervisor, but I guess I might ask why you can’s ask the current

Hi Vinnyray, Congrats on a great GMAT. That is definitely needed to compete in your competitive applicant pool as an Indian Engineer! You’ve had some nice career progression, any major accomplishments/results you can speak to in your apps? That’s great about the dance competitions. List any awards you’ve won etc. Did you have any leadership roles at school, other clubs etc? Anything now in terms of extra curriculars and hobbies or since you graduated? these will be really important for all the schools you are applying to. The schools will also want to know why consulting and why the switch and how you can contribute as a consultant. So make sure that is clear in your apps.

This should not be an issue at all if you explain very clearly WHY you needed to make the temporary jump (get personal if you need to) -- and -- even better is if you can weave in what you gained from doing so into your career story and show how this change will actually help you reach your goals and add value to the MBA classroom -- def. use additional info essay when and where you can! Make it work with your story.

GMAT = congrats! You have a strong profile here -- as I mentioned in the earlier reply, I think you’ll be able to make the deviation work for you -- use your essays and tell your personal story + tie it to goals!
