Career goals?

Which schools you choose will depend a bit on what your career goals are and where you want to be based post-MBA. Once you’ve got your general location sorted out, think about whether you want a big city school or one that’s a bit more campus based and collegial. Then look through the employment reports to see which schools are recruiting into your target employers. You have some great bits and pieces in your profile including the NGO volunteering and the national youth conference leadership. If you can secure a strong GMAT that obviously helps but perhaps look at trying to broaden out your professional track from sales or gain some cross-industry experience. Bu

Love to see some tutoring as an EC and engagement at Deloitte via training; this is great! As you approach 10 year of work experience, it helps to mix up FT programs with 1 year (European) or the CBS JTerm / Sloan Fellows option as they are more flex with applicants with a lot of work exp. US schools are also really trending up with GMAT score, so I might aim for 750+ and even if you land in 720-40 range, it can help.

Applying with a terminal degree can be a bit tricky, and will require a very clear build out of WHY you need an MBA at this juncture. You have to navigate that they will be asking themselves this when they read your app, so this needs to be hashed out ahead of time. I would connect with programs individually and discuss your goals and see if they can connect you with folks who have done something similar. If not, it can be a sign they don’t take many with that path. Do some close research and work on the why!

Thank you very much for your reply. Could you also please suggest me if it is a bad idea for me with 9 years of work experience to opt for a 2 year MBA program ? Are my chances less for a 2 year MBA than a 1 year MBA ?

Jun 29, 2021

That’s fine - what would you like to ask?

I do see that as you get in the 7-8+ years range the FT can be a bit of a harder sell as the avg #of years is much lower at many schools

Jun 29, 2021

Recommended target schools and programs with employment assistance. Three years teaching experience as well for engineering undergrds. So. Total 11 years work ex. Gmat 700+ (to be taken).

what is the difference between a stern and non stern mba?

Jun 29, 2021

Manufacturing and government experience is a great combo with a lot of value add to the business school classroom. With 8 years you are getting to the higher end of the pool for the FT MBA. Most schools offer career assistance although a lot of the initiative needs to come from you :-) You might want to look at some of the European schools (which have a higher average experience level) unless you are specifically targeting the US or elsewhere?
