Avi has been teaching test prep since 2004. He earned his MBA at NYU Stern, and worked for the world's largest hedge fund before realizing that with a 780 GMAT he could do what he loves on a full-time basis. In addition to running Quant Reasoning, Avi is currently working as an External Facilitator to McKinsey.

Avi scored in the 99th percentile on his first GMAT in 2006, while teaching for the Israeli version of the SATs, and has beat his first GMAT score in every one of his four subsequent attempts. While at NYU Stern, he took on the position of teaching fellow and taught his classmates several courses including Operations, Foundations of Finance, and New Venture Financing.

Later, as a GMAT Instructor for Manhattan Prep (2011-2020), Avi taught courses and tutored students both in person and online, managed other instructors, and created the Foundations of GMAT Math Workshop.

I have tried multiple tutors / coaching prep companies, but could never figure out the exact thought process for approaching a GMAT question be it on verbal or quant, until I chanced upon a YouTube video from Avi Gutman of Quant Reasoning and discovered the joy of simple reasoning for breaking down a GMAT question, even the hardest of them. Subsequently I subscribed to his channel Quant Reasoning and booked a tutoring session with him. Not only did he explain very well how GMAT is a purely reasoning based exam but also showed how it is so. Post the session, although I had to unlearn a lot but what I gained stood me on solid grounds, resulting in a 100-point score improvement from 560 to 660 in my first attempt. It’s a different story that I got admitted to one of my selected b-schools with my score otherwise I am sure I would have secured a 7XX score with his help. I strongly recommend Quant Reasoning to anyone who wants to learn the right approach to take on GMAT to score well. Also, before I forget to mention, it’s very very affordable (I would refrain from using the word cheap, because learning from Avi Gutman is PRICELESS ) given the pricing charged by others. If you are still not sure, please check out Quant Reasoning videos on YouTube and decide for yourself.

Avi revolutionized the way I thought about quantitative problems. In the space of 6 weeks, I went from a 590 on the GMAT, with a 35 on Quant, to a 740 on the GMAT, with a 48 on Quant. He was an incredible tutor, and he challenges you to think outside the box. It was truly the only way I could have dramatically improved in such a short period of time.

I have tried a few other courses, but only Avi challenged the way we traditionally try to push through quantitative problems. Rather, he provides a repeatable, analytical framework, from number lines to breaking down numbers, which turned a weakness into a strength. The official GMAT was the first official test I took, fully expecting to have to retake, and I got above my target score with no problem!

Thank you, Avi.

My Q section used to stay at 46-47 range, and I just could not get a break-through to 50 above. As an ESL student, I had to get a strong Q in order to hit 700. Avi definitely gave me the correct mindset to do so. He did not emphasize on practicing a large quantity of problems. Instead, he identified my weaknesses and helped me build a systematic way of reviewing the wrong problems. Most importantly, his approach to GMAT presents an unique and “calm-mind” mentality, which helped not only my Q section but also my V section. In addition, Avi was very quick in responding my emails. He would not simply provide me the answer but would push me to the right direction to find the answer. Tackling GMAT can be stressful, and only with the correct mentality will you be success. Avi is the expert on instilling that mindset to his students.
