I am a founding class member at BITS School of Management (BITSoM) Landing an admit to BITSoM was a significant leap in my career as it provided me with an opportunity to learn from global faculty with amazing batchmates.
Before Start of College:-
I remember applying to BITSoM at the end of February 2021. There were many doubts, just like many of you reading this must be having. Whenever there was an issue or a clarification needed, I gave a ring to the admissions team at BITSoM. They very professionally helped out and resolved my queries.
Upon receiving a call for an interview, I was excited to reach the next stage. The interview lasted for ~30min; the process was very swift, with the panel asking questions to see the candidate's intent, aspiration, and passion.
I received my admit letter on 24th March 2021 was ecstatic to hear the news. The program was going to start in July, but till then, BITSoM kept all of us engaged and provided pre-work to get us all ready for the course.
Leadership series was started during this phase with multiple industry leaders sharing their experiences with us
We were provided with HBS modules which consisted of six online courses
Start:-
Although the start was online over Zoom, we were requested to arrive in Mumbai to benefit from peer learning. One fantastic thing to note here is that we were given a stay at Marriott Renaissance in Powai Yes, you read it right.! They could have arranged for any mediocre visit, but they didn't, which showed me the intent and commitment to give world-class education with a world-class experience.
As the formalities of hostel residence were completed, we were very smoothly transferred to this new fully furnished residence in Andheri.
Networking:-
This is an essential aspect of MBA learning. Getting in touch with colleagues, faculty, and industry leaders who will come someday will provide some fantastic opportunities that will boost our careers exponentially. I am learning with a great set of batchmates from various educational backgrounds and industry experience, giving me a chance to learn from them. Apart from this, the faculty here also is very approachable and ready to resolve any issue that we might have. Most importantly, networking outside the boundaries of the institute has also been top-notch. I want to share an example. We are allotted an industry mentor to guide and help us in our careers. During this phase, I got an opportunity to get in touch with one such industry leader who has provided valuable suggestions and guidance. Many such opportunities have come our way during leadership series or placement talks to connect with people from diverse backgrounds.
Immersion
I am eagerly waiting for the immersion program at London Business School (LBS), which is scheduled to take place in our 2nd year. I hope Covid-19 doesn't ruin this.
Conclusion
To summarise, I would say BITSoM will provide a great platform to learn, connect and elevate careers. Sure, this is just the 1st year of this B-School; still, it holds a great prospect to become the top management institute in the country.
Courses:-
Learning pedagogy at BITSoM is unique, the block teaching method consists tow courses that run for two weeks, and then a new set of courses start. We have one core course and one Winning At Workplace (WAW) course in these two weeks. These two courses provide a good blend of core knowledge and soft skills required for the post MBA journey.
Some of the core courses are – Business Statistics, Marketing Management, Operations Management, Financial Accounting and more.
These courses have a good mix of reading, cases, and class discussion to help us learn in different ways to get an overall perspective. Cases discussed in class are from Harvard, MIT, HEC Paris, and more.
WAW Courses – Adding a special section for this as I think this is a unique and essential part of our curriculum. These courses are designed to prepare us for our jobs and taught by experts in their respective fields.
Some of the WAW courses are – Well Being and Happiness, Whole Brain Thinking, Learning to Learn, Smart Problem Solving and more.
Faculty:-
This was a major decider in joining the institute. I was amazed to see such a stellar faculty on the website before starting the course. Professors from NYU Stern, Wharton, Kellogg, SMU, Cornell are making this institute truly global.
You might have a question, why is global faculty so important?
These professors are leaders in respective fields with years of experience in academia and the industry. They bring in real examples and unique teaching pedagogy with them. Assessment is not focused on how much a person can recollect and right in the exam instead. It is focused on the practical application of all the learning in the class.
Placement:-

Yes, I was apprehensive too initially, but believe me, we have had a fantastic summer placement experience. 100% of the batch has been placed in various companies like Bain, HUL, PWC, EY, KPMG and more

The program at BITSoM is as unique as it is challenging. Imagine a semester at IIM structured within a three-month block.
Now, if you're still interested, let me tell you that the rigour is totally worth it. There are many learning opportunities in the form of the Core & Winning at Workplace Courses, Leadership Talks, Clubs and Committees, Mentors and more.
The cohort is very diverse, with people who've built their own startups to authors and even doctors. And each one brings a unique set of experiences and stories with them. This is perhaps where the most learning in any MBA program happens. So I am glad I got such a varied set of people to interact and learn with.
All the professors are highly accomplished people with backgrounds that speak loud.
