Calling all CBS Applicants - (2015 Intake) Class of 2017 : Columbia

May 17, 2014

CBS Decision Procedure

Mr.Matthew Moll, Associate Director(CBS) "Our goal is either to deny admission or invite for an interview or within six weeks of a completed application being received. Our goal for interviewed applicants is to render a final decision within two weeks of the interview report being completed.
It is our goal that all reviews are within these timelines. I suggest that candidates reach out to us if their application is outside of the six week timeline, but before doing so they should check their application status page for their complete date. Regarding the interview, it is two weeks from when the interviewer has submitted the interview feedback, not the date of the interview, so applicants should keep that in mind as well.
"

Looking to apply J-Term not sure if this is right thread. The other one was class of 2016, which is the correct year for me but they would technically graduate in 2015. am I right?

This one is you're looking for I guess https://gmatclub.com/forum/columbia-j-term-calling-all-applicants-class-of-151308.html. These guys would graduate in 2016 I think along with the August entry of 2014.

See this.

May 28, 2014

Wow, it looks really similar to last year's. GL everyone!

ED or RD; Which one would you prefer and why?

Jun 29, 2014

Guys, I am going to be a re-applicant to CBS, this time for the J-term.

I noticed that CBS have an abridged application for re-applicant, wherein they only require a 500-word re-applicant essay, and they state that 'Re-applicants are NOT required to submit additional essays. Only the re-applicant essay is required.'

I was wondering whether I may still go ahead and submit the standard 3 essays, in addition to the required re-applicant essay. I want to do this because I know that my previous essays were completely crap, and as such, want the opportunity to submit them again to better articulate my goals and career ambitions.

Do you think I may be able to do this?

You should reach out to CBS either through GMAT Club or directly to get this clarified! It's always better to know this sort of stuffs from the source itself, I believe :-)

Jul 13, 2014

For recommendation letters, does CBS have a word count restriction for each of the two questions they want recommenders to answer? I could not find one on the application requirements page.

Jul 14, 2014

I believe it is a 1000 word recommended limit.

I don't think there's a penalty or anything if your recommender goes over it, but I think 1000 words per recommendation is probably more than enough.

Jul 14, 2014

My recommender asked me if he can upload the file as one letter, not specifically answering each of the two questions (he'll answer them in the letter). Do you guys know how to proceed?

Jul 14, 2014

I think uploading one letter is ok. But I can't really answer that.

It would probably best to ask admissions directly either email, phone call, or there's a forum topic to reach out to Columbia Admissions.

I've just started working on the essays. I'm trying to wrap everything up in the next 4-6 weeks.

Would be awesome if we found out that we got in a year in advance. Good luck - hope Columbia knows that you and I started way early!
