Thanks for sharing.

So considering R1 deadlines somewhere in mid Oct, Olin allows just a month for essays & recos?

Olin does not have LORs. As far as essays are concerned, Olin had a SOP style essay in 2014. It's better to prepare a sample Goals/ SOP draft in the mean time. It will find use in one school or the other.

Are there any current students/Alums who would want to answer applicant queries?

:)

Olin has apparently updated there single essay this time round. Below is the description of the required essay. Also, as earlier, no letter of recommendations are required nor is any application fee required.

At Olin, we pride ourselves on our close-knit community and aim to know every student by name and story. In an essay of no more than 500 words, please introduce yourself as you would to your future Olin classmates.

Hi,

As per Olin, the TOEFL requirement is waived under the following circumstances :

An applicant is a citizen of a country where the official language is English; or if an applicant has completed a bachelor’s degree or graduate degree at an institution where the primary language of instruction is English.

I am sure, as an Indian, there is high probability that your medium of instruction during your under grad was English. In that case, you get a waiver. Even if you don't get one, OLIN still doesn't require Official Scores at the time of application. So you can always upload the .PDF report from the TOEFL website in case you are done with your TOEFL. Hope this helps.

Anybody submitted the applications.I am planning to do so by next week.

I plan on doing mine early next week.

It seems to be a really small program, and the ranking is really good, I am impressed.

I plan to submit a day or two before the 1st October R1 deadline. Can any current student comment on how generous is Olin with Scholarships?

The best thing that I have discovered about Olin is that its application process is a breeze. No recommendations, no app fee, no official transcripts, no official scores and just a single mandatory essay.

Totally agree with SohamDutta,

I am okay with other things, but asking for recs is just awkward as heck. Especially nowadays every school asks for some specific types of questions... and I am trying not to ask the same person for more than two, so I am running out of recommenders quickly.

No application fees is the icing on the cake. Who doesn't like saving 200 dollars? Great job Olin.

Add to that some schools will ask you about your professional achievements multiple times : once in essay, once while listing your work ex and again in some way while write your essay. And the hardest part is to not sound too repetitive while writing the same stuff.

Also, unless you are super friendly with your reporting supervisor, trusting him that he will give the best of reviews is easier said than done.

How are the essays coming along?

Alright the first one is simply a career plan statement, but how is everyone handling the second essay? Should I introduce myself casually as I would to my fellow classmate, or should I be a bit more formal with my approach since it is the ad-com reading it?

Hello frnds,

I searched the Olin website completely but could not find a student club which indulges in social initiatives and community work.

Please confirm, am I right? I find it surprising not to have such a club.
