Hi everyone, I noticed we don't have a group of INSEAD Jan 2019 intake and since the Round 1 preps have started, why not create one? Whose looking to apply? Share ideas and prep tips!

Hey, thanks for starting this thread but I feel it will be more useful to have everyone on just 1 thread. Since there is just 3 months gap between Sep and Jan intake, people can easily switch the round to which they are applying to , and more people in one place will generate more ideas and support.

I suggest- use the already existing groups to take the discussion ahead.

Asha89 hello, I am the threadmaster for Jan18 intake. I had emailed Narenn about this a while ago but it seems it did not go through. We spoke via email yesterday and hes willing to make this the official thread - and we could act as dual threadmasters for this? How does that sound?

Abhishank Asha89 I see some merit in your idea here; just would be very important to remove all the SEPTEMBER batch language from your thread and/or add JANUARY language so people know where to go. Narenn?

I'm starting work on my essays and have a question. I work with an NGO that empowers women from low-income families with vocational training so they can start their own businesses. Does this work come under "extra-professional" activities that essay 3 mentions?

Thats precisely the problem. All discussions about the September intake would be merged with the Jan intake, which I don't think is very intuitive and accessible.

Absolutely! Congrats, that will help develop a nice case for a pattern of leadership. And contribution as well, two out of the four criteria.

I like the idea of more people but I think that it would create Muddy Waters and therefore less people LOL

@abhishank, I think there will be too much overlap and the notifications would not be useful half the time for everybody. So I think that it's probably best to continue keeping these separated. Maybe we can take some measures to increase our numbers.

Thank you Asha89 for starting the discussion thread for Jan19 applicants. Good luck for your apps this season.

Hi MBAPrepCoach, Thank you very much for your invaluable contribution in forum discussions and sharing tips/words of wisdom with applicants. With you personally supervising this thread, I may not even need to monitor the thread continuously. :-D Thanks again!

Just found this in an old INSEAD thread. Difference between Sept and Jan intakes.

alokag wrote:Hi - any data points available : INSEAD JAN Vs SEP INTAKE : Application to acceptance ratio, I heard placement of Jan intake is always better as compared to Sep intake.

Jan intake has an INTERNSHIP option while Sep intake is without Internship

Does it make sense to apply in SEP Intake - without Internship????? or Apply in JAN intake ???

i think you didn't get any replies on this thread because nobody here may have a clear idea about it. i have been researching the same thing for a while. here is what i have found so far -

1. US 2 year MBA program places considerable emphasis on internship. For some career switches internship is an absolute must irrespective of geographical location. One example - from no financial background to IB, PE or if you are lucky enough VC.

2. US internship duration is 4 months compared to 2 months duration of INSEAD J internship.

3. Only 50% of J batch students actually seek internship at INSEAD. only 25% of those convert those to full time offers.

4. If you are planning to go to INSEAD and then aspire to work in PE in London, then J batch and PE internship is a must. That will give your resume some fighting chance.

5. You only have 2-3 years experience. Rare at INSEAD, but possible.

6. If #4 and #5 doesn't apply to you, i.e. your career goals are in consulting or general management and you have few years of experience, then there is no difference between Jan/Sept.

I might be the odd one out, but why do we need a https://gmatclub.com/chat group? Surely having a searchable, indexed record on GmatClub will be more beneficial to late applicants and future students?

ThanksJTdaniel, I agree, would be best to capture everything in one place. Sorry to burst anyone's bubble but Narenn expressed to me under no uncertain terms that I am not to be coordinating your information to facilitate a https://gmatclub.com/chat Group because GMAT Club cannot guarantee your privacy ie legal concerns. So that is not happening but I hope that you are all willing to participate fully in the forum.

Hi everyone, this is a very long application and so I recommend that this week, you put all the job and motivation essays in one master file and look at them every day. Just see what percolates for you. Jot down what comes to mind, just start gently with this process but get everything in front of you that you need to complete.

December 17 Graduation Ceremony, if you are looking for some inspiration! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SNsAiZD9JHA

Jan 11, 2018

Hello, hello!

Can't believe it's already time to apply! I'm still researching essays, studying for GMAT, and getting my recommendations in order -- so much work!

Planning to apply Round 2 but, if all my stars align, I'll be submitting for Round 1.

My background: American, woman, 35 have worked the last 9 years in the exciting world of finance regulations. INSEAD is my (obviously) first choice. HEC and Oxbridge are my second choices. I'm too nervous to put all my eggs in one basket with INSEAD.

Why INSEAD: Why not? Seriously, my grandmother has been beating INSEAD into my head since I can remember. I'm not allowed to not apply, ha. Plus, INSEAD's network and program is TRULY global. I'm also trying to pull a triple jump with my MBA and switch geography, industry, and function! Given the big jump, I need that summer internship, so Jan intake was my only option.

Will keep you posted on how my application goes along. Good luck to everyone!
