I am an MBA candidate at UMass Amherst and have somewhat mixed feelings about the FT MBA program.
Pros:
1. Fully Funded MBA with a stipend, virtually ensures that you won't be graduating with debt.
2. The School has recently renovated the whole building and has started to focus on increasing its reputation.
3. Proximity to Boston was a major draw for me.
4. Some professors are very knowledgable and have considerable industry connections.
5. Supportive MBA staffs.
Cons:
1. Non-existent Career Services was the biggest shock for me. You will never know who to get help from if you are having a big interview coming up. Surprisingly, the undergraduate program has a very well functioning career services, indicating that by offering free MBA Isenberg is offering bare minimum services to the graduate students.
2. The whole curriculum of the MBA program is very easy and you won't have to break a sweat. After graduating from this program, you will still don't know many things what a normal MBA graduate will know. The Operations, Marketing, and HR classes are just about reading cases (and then discussion) with no emphasis upon building core concepts first. In fact, the operations class is the most ridiculous class, with no textbook at all only a bunch of management books (read story books).
3. The class is made up of students who have GMAT scores in the low 500s( read domestic students). Most of the students in the class have no idea why they are doing MBA.
Change the curriculum and make it more competitive
Hardly 1 or 2 company shows up in a year. Don't come if you are an international.
