Worth it

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by score report [?]

I was concerned about the cost but I had tried to just use the online resources and needed some specific strategies for how to master the test. Daniel was incredibly helpful and flexible. He didn't waste any time and we got to the core issues immediately in each session. We worked on my timing and approach. I was doing things that I had read about and I thought would be helpful but in reality they were slowing me down and he helped me realize that. He was was dedicated to my success and not only when we were in a paid session—he would respond to emails with questions and was very helpful.

Great GMAT Course!!

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by score report [?]

I took a 9-week GMAT course with Eric at the beginning of 2018. I had decided to not only study and take the GMAT, but also applied for a few part-time MBA programs at the same time, so during this period, I had to put in a lot of hard work, dedication and discipline. Eric was a great resource. He motivated our class and always had some piece of advice that we could use in our studies. You do need to put in the time as well but Eric helps along the way and I would recommend using the tips he provides even though it is more work on top of the Manhattan Prep homework load. My first score was a 530 after finishing the class, and Eric warned us our first live GMAT will not be as great as we hope, so I kept on with the studies, using the tips that Eric provided, while also keeping the mindset that this isn't the end of the world. After one month, I retook the GMAT and raised my score to 640! If it weren't for Eric, Manhattan Prep and my GMAT study group, I would probably not have reached that score, so I'm pretty darn happy so I highly recommend taking Eric's class.

Good starting point

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by score report [?]

Manhattan was a good starting point that helped focus my GMAT strategy. The classes were good to teach the tips/tricks and high level thought strategy needed to wrap my head around basic quant & verbal but I don't think it was as helpful if you needed basic math & verbal skills teaching.

I actually used the online test diagnostics to hone in on the specific sub topics that I needed help in most and that was very useful to pinpoint my weak areas vs. haphazardly studying. On the more $$$ side but I would take the course again if I had to redo this whole process!

Elaine at MP

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by score report [?]

Elaine was a lifesaver - she made the process enjoyable and manageable. She is very smart and knows the test process in and out but what makes her GREAT is that she can communicate how we as students can apply what she knows in a way that makes sense. Also the Manhattan Prep materials from the books to the webinars were awesome! Helped me get into my dream school! My class was small and that made it really nice to be able to ask questions and engage. I studied on my own for 6 week prior to the class and I do believe that helped me quite a bit so that I could stay on track. The homework is heavy and you need time on your hands to be able to keep up.

I cannot believe how few reviews Elaine has on Manhattan Prep. Here to give a big, big shout-out to my favourite instructor, who was the big changer for me!

Without Manhattan Prep and specifically, Elaine Loh, I could not have broken through the 700 barrier. I owe my entire 720 (Q49, V40) to Elaine's guidance, tutoring, and her holistic way of teaching. Content is not the sole focus of Elaine's teaching; of course, content is important up to a certain point, but your style of studying and mentality are equally important. Elaine put a huge emphasis on error logging and having a positive and relaxed mindset, and I can honestly say that these two things probably made the biggest difference in my studying.

After I started error logging and becoming more "mindful", upon Elaine's suggestion, my practice scores shot up exponentially. Just for reference, I began my GMAT journey at 600!

More so than her awesome way of teaching, Elaine is just really darn knowledgeable about the GMAT. The way that she is able to clarify points of confusion in a very clear and concise manner is not something that just any smart person can do! She also taught me certain strategies that were very helpful to ultimately succeeding on the GMAT.

All in all, as you can see, I am a huge fan of Elaine and Manhattan Prep. While I can't speak for other instructors, I certainly have no doubts that Manhattan Prep is a top-notch company. If you are struggling with the GMAT, I would highly recommend Manhattan Prep and Elaine Loh!

Helped this liberal arts major get a 720 with 46Q!

Course Manhattan Prep Manhattan GMAT Private Tutoring

Instructor Daniel Patinkin

Location Los Angeles, CA USA

I completed 10 hours of private instruction with Dan Patinkin upon the enthusiastic recommendation of a personal friend, who had in turn been enthusiastically recommended by both of her MBA bosses. I would like to keep the enthusiastic chain of recommendation momentum going!

Obviously, everyone's results will vary depending on what their strength and weaknesses are, and their individual learning styles. So I'll just keep this to my personal experience.

I began studying for the GMAT in August of 2017. I work in non-profits and studied the liberal arts; the last time I did math was AP Stats in high school and I never took anything more advanced than Algebra 2. Thinking about standardized testing, let alone math, still makes my heart race.

From the get-go, I knew my work with Dan would be pretty much exclusively dedicated to quant, and that's partially why it was important to me to spring for personal tutoring rather than a class. Wouldn't have made sense to spend my precious time and money practicing verbal, since I desperately needed extra support with math.

Manhattan's attention to detail, and that of Dan specifically, helped me transform over the space of a few short months. Don't get me wrong, you have to work a lot.... like 10-15 hours per week for 4+ months... but for me, the hardest part of studying has always been knowing exactly WHERE to focus my efforts, and that's what Manhattan/Dan took care of for me.

So all I had to do, thanks to his help, was.... practice.

At one point, I scored a 490 on a practice test and CRIED. I am proud to say that last month, I sat for my very first (and final!) GMAT in December 2017 and scored a 720 -- 46 Q (WAY above my target) and 44 V!

I wouldn't have been able to make a fraction of these gains -- let alone keep my cool -- if it weren't for Dan's insight, generosity, and encouragement.

Thank you!

Fantastic Experience with Chris Berman

I had quite a long journey with the GMAT, which spanned over the period of about a year and a half. Initially, I took the GRE, and only gave myself about 5 weeks to study for the exam. I reached out to Manhattan Prep to schedule some tutoring time since I was under the gun and I wanted to maximize my learning time. My expectations were far exceeded with Chris. Not only does he know the test inside and out, but after reviewing my strengths and weaknesses he quickly asserted that I should consider taking the GMAT instead of the GRE. I took a practice test cold and scored slightly above what I was scoring on the GRE practice tests, which I was familiar with. Fast forward a year later, I went to Chris again before taking the GMAT. His ability to laser in on what each question type is really simplifies what you're looking for when you get each question. This helped me immensely with the critical reasoning, which I sometimes went around in circles with on the hard question types. More than this, Chris has a way of imparting wisdom in metaphors that stick with you. He noted my weaknesses and told me a few anecdotes and sayings that literally repeated in my head on test day and made the difference between me staying on track time-wise and taking too long on certain questions (I tend to want to double/triple check that I have a question right, which you cannot do on the GMAT). Overall, it's not only Chris' ability to hone in on what you're weak in, but also his outlook on the test that really makes him invaluable. The private tutoring is an investment, but I couldn't have been happier with it. I only give 4 stars for math because we didn't work on the math as much as the verbal. He recognized that the verbal was where I was really going to be able to raise my score, so we focused on that.

I was beyond thrilled with my outcome after working with Dan. If you're willing to put in the work and the time, he'll get you where you want to go. Over the course of four months, I went from a 620 (35Q, 41V, Princeton Review Practice Test) to a 770 (48Q, 48V, Official GMAT). I worked with Dan for 12 hours total, and about 150 hours on my own. I was astonished by how well Dan knew the material - he seemed to have hundreds of questions committed to memory and knew exactly which one to throw at you when. I felt like I was in incredible hands. I also really appreciated that Dan was conservative about how much time we were spending together (minding my budget) and that he was generous with his time between sessions if I had questions via email. After I finished up with Dan, I passed him along to my best friend, and she saw an equally sizable leap between her initial and final scores. I put a lot of faith in Dan as a guide and I am so glad that I did. Highly recommend working with him.

Amazing teacher and curriculum

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by score report [?]

I am so thankful for Manhattan Prep. I came from the nonprofit world and I’m also in my early 30’s which means I haven’t practiced math in over 10 years. When I took a practice test I got a 520 and I was hoping to just break 600, which seemed like an incredible feat. I had Chris Peckover as my teacher and his energy and positivity towards me encouraged me to to persevere. He’s a genius, has strong EQ (which means he knows how to explain things to his students in a way they can understand) and has terrific energy. I’m pursuing my second masters and so I’ve experienced a lot of teachers. Chris is one of the best teachers I have ever had. He really wants to see his students succeed. I also highly highly recommend the post-exam assessment after you take your first GMAT. They review all your past practice tests plus your actual GMAT to help give you helpful strategies. I took the GMAT twice (620, 670). I just received my acceptance letter into the school of my choice, USC! So thankful to Manhattan Prep and Chris Peckover.

Manhattan Prep 9-Week Course with Elaine Loh

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by score report [?]

Before committing to a prep course, I decided to do a fair amount of digging on GMAT Club since a prep course is a pricey investment. I was between Kaplan and Manhattan Prep, and, ultimately, decided to take a 9-week course with Manhattan Prep’s Elaine Loh in Santa Monica. I didn’t really know what I was getting myself into, but looking back, I could not have made a better choice.

The 9-week course was very structured and easy to follow. Elaine’s fun and upbeat teaching method kept me engaged and I actually looked forward to going to class. I made sure I did all of the homework so that I came to class prepared in order to tackle new material. I highly recommend keeping up with the homework in order to maximize the value you get from the course. Additionally, Elaine’s explanation of practice questions and Manhattan Prep techniques was easy to understand and extremely thorough.

I think the best thing I can say about Elaine is that she truly cares about her students and isn’t lying when she says she is your teacher for life. I had my struggles. My first practice CAT score was 550. Even after the course ended, I was still struggling and very frustrated. I emailed Elaine novels and she always replied promptly even though she didn’t have to. When I scored a 740 on my second GMAT attempt, the person I was most excited to share my news with was Elaine. She was absolutely instrumental to my success and all the long nights and weekends studying were worth it. I could not have succeeded on the GMAT without Elaine and Manhattan Prep!
