I Improved 110 points in just 4 weeks!!

Improvement 110 Points

Course Manhattan Prep MGMAT Interact

Location Online

This course is honestly great. You can take it as quickly or as slowly as you like as there are no live classes. Everything is pre-recorded and interactive so tailored to your strengths and weaknesses. It's also divided up into many sub-sections within Verbal, Quand, and IR. This means that you have the possibility to focus on just certain bits of the GMAT (even though I would recommend going through the whole course. I completed it in 4 weeks but I must honestly say that this was working at least 3 hours a day. I wish I had had more time to fully enjoy this course and do it over 3 months. It would have allowed me to practice more and use some of the extra resources that Manhattan Prep offers as part of the course (extra practice questions etc). I did however add 110 points to my previous score so I was very satisfied.
There are 6 CAT exams which are really useful to get used to the exam and also to see how you improve as you complete the course. One great thing as well, is that they have articles on time management which I found really useful because they give you special techniques of how to keep track of time as you do the exam (this is something I really struggled with initially), and how to use your whiteboard in the most efficient way given the time constraints.
Quant: I learnt some great techniques to go faster and how to recognise specific types of questions and strategies to go about them. MPrep Interact also often provides different strategies and let's you choose which one you prefer because it acknowledges the fact that we don't all go about math problems in the same way.
Verbal: I thought verbal was the best section of this course so if you're looking to improve your verbal score then I'd really recommend this MPrep Interact. It goes through everything you need to know for SC and RC but more importantly it has helped me recognise when the GMAT tries to catch you out, especially on the toughest questions which I found were in the CR section of the exam.
Overall I highly recommend this course, especially if like me you like to organise your studying with your own schedule and take more or less time depending on which sections of the exam you wish to focus on. I wouldn't recommend it however if you're looking to do it in just a few weeks like me, it's possible but really not much fun! If you're not an organised person, then maybe courses with actual live tutors would be more suited. I didn't buy the paper books, just the online PDFs that are included for free and that was fine! They're really useful (unlike the OG book that really is not enough to do well on the exam!)

Course Manhattan Prep MGMAT Interact

Location Online

I found the Interact program through Manhattan Prep to be quite beneficial in helping me to achieve my target score. I began studying in early February and by early April I was consistently achieving above 700 on the official practice exams.

The course is a great combination of original material and official guide problem sets, and the video lessons almost always helped me to better understand the topics covered.

My only issue was finding the Manhattan mock exams a lot more difficult than the real thing. For example, I scored 590 on a Manhattan mock and a 760 on an official mock two days later. At the same time, however, I can't argue that they didn't help prepare me for the real exam.

Recommend Mike Morgan if you are taking the class in Philly

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by school email address [?]

I recently completed the GMAT in person course from Manhattan Prep and mike was the instructor for my class.

We only had 3 people in the class and mike made the learning process very practical..

He taught us the different test taking strategies and we solved 3-4 questions applying these strategies in class as we learned them

He is very easy to talk to and this really helped me with asking him a lot of questions.

Three months after my course, I am still in touch with him to get his help and talk about my preparation strategies.

Overall, I was very satisfied with the class. The 3 hours I spent there every Saturday flew by as it was a really practical environment where we were constantly learning and solving questions.

I haven't taken the official GMAT yet but the scores here are from my latest practice test

Great group class program

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by score report [?]

OVERALL: I recommend this class if you know what you need to work on and are looking for a group setting and if you're trying to get to high 600s-low 700s. If you're trying to get to high 700s, I would recommend a private tutor instead (once you are consistently getting high 600s), because you will not be hitting those less-frequently-tested subjects during this class.

RESULTS: I was getting about 630 on my practice exams (I was using Manhattan Prep practice exams which are notoriously harder than the actual exam). My first real exam I got a 710 and then I hired a private tutor from Manhattan Prep. I took the exam again and got a 720, but on my third time got a 750.

PREPARATION: I had done very minimal preparation work before signing up for this class. I had done a few online quizzes and quickly realized that I wasn't just going to be able to wing the GMAT exam. I signed up for this class and really committed to it - I went to every lesson and did all the homework, etc.

RESOURCES: The Manhattan Prep portal is very easy and straightforward to use. You can set up and take infinite quizzes online and even specify them to subjects you want to test. There's a page where you can analyze the problems you got wrong as well. They give you all the Manhattan Prep books which I found very useful for preparing for the exam - many forums recommend these books, but they are included when you sign up for a class. They also give you a GMAT scratch sheet (and special pen) which is VERY helpful for when you take the actual exam and they teach you how to set up your scratch work most efficiently (time is so crucial on the exam!). They also gave us a copy of mbaMission's Complete Start-to-Finish MBA guide which I found helpful for applying to school, particularly when I was trying to figure it all out.

COURSE SET UP: The class meets once a week for three hours, with a break around half time. We spent about half the time on quant and then half the time on verbal. We did not really spend any time on the writing section and limited time on IR. You have a significant amount of homework (this is where you work on IR). You will get as much from the class as you put into it, so you do really need to do the homework.

INSTRUCTOR: My instructor was very knowledgable and helpful. He made class fun as well - a three hour class can be rough especially after a full work day, but he made it enjoyable.

CLASSES: As this is a group setting, we obviously don't have time to go off on tangents to whatever any particular student's weakness is. However, I think we covered a lot of the basics - enough that you should be able to get a good score.

Manhattan Prep in person course: A great place to start

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by score report [?]

I took my first diagnostic test back in Nov 2017 and scored a 520. I decided to do a 9 session in person class with Manhattan Prep every Saturday. Ryan was an awesome instructor and the class was very collaborative. He created a great learning environment, where my classmates and I strove to help each other understand tricky questions and materials. The course provided a great framework for my GMAT studying. However, I do think most people will need to study for several months or use other services to propell them to higher scores. After Manhattan Prep I scored a 640 & 670 respectively. It wasn't until I used tutoring and TTP that I was able to get to my target score (740).

Extremely overpriced and practically useless

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by score report [?]

Hi, I took the course here and while the instructor was great and was the only best thing about the course, the course in itself wasnt too helpful. The basics covered are yes helpful, but the basics can only bring one to a certain score, and for me this course barely helped me cross a 600. It is very overpriced, I would recommend buying the verbal books but thats about it. Their quant material, as compared to the quant material of other online courses, is very, very basic in the least. The end of chapter questions are no where near the testing standards. Their 6 practice CATs are good, but other than that, I found the course lacked in preparing one in terms of the difficulty of the GMAT. The instructor is great in that he is so helpful in helping you understand everything about the GMAT, including relaxation tips, mental strategies but I wish I had rather heard those helpful tips without the >$1500 price tag. The instructor is the best thing about the course, and is one of the most helpful resources, but the course on the other hand, is too basic.

Excellent Progress Made in Ryan McGorman's Course

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by gmat club tests [?]

I participated in the MPrep 9 week course in Manhattan with instructor Ryan McGorman. I really enjoyed our weekly sessions with Ryan as he was not only smart and funny but a talented teacher. The course was an excellent starting point for me in my GMAT prep. My verbal was naturally higher than my quant, but both needed plenty of refining. Ryan did an excellent job laying the groundwork for me to gain a better understand and ability with the material and really helped me boost my verbal score as well as help me figure out what areas of my quant needed the most work. The improvement on quant came largely from self-study of the Mprep material simply because the number of repetitions I needed to really understand the material would not have been possible in a class setting, but I learned some great tricks and tips. Very worthwhile class and a great instructor.

Ryan was great!

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by score report [?]

Great course - focused on efficiency and strategies, rather than extraneous content. Everything I learned was very useful during the actual test. Ryan, in particular, was an awesome teacher. He was very blunt, and direct; and I even found it helpful (weirdly) to approach questions with his emphatic voice/intonations, as well as his helpful analogies. There was an optimal balance of quant vs. verbal content, and the strategies were very helpful, particularly in time management/on the quant section. Additionally, the 1-on-1 assessment during the course to help focus my strengths/weaknesses did wonders for my score. There were only 2 minor negative aspects with the curriculum: 1. Limited practice tests (more personal preference – I study best through excessive repetition, so I wanted more than 6) and 2. Slightly too much IR focus in the homework assignments.

Great instruction!

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by score report [?]

If you only have 3 months to prepare, I highly recommend this course. It helps you frame your practice and gives you techniques to approach each section. Although I have a math background, Manhattan Prep provided me with new ways to think about problems and techniques to speed up in this section. I also struggle with verbal, especially reading comprehension, and Manhattan Prep broke down the process so that I consistently improved throughout the course.

In addition to great instruction, you get access to all of the books, which are fantastic for learning and reviewing, and video lectures. I found it very helpful to go through each video lecture after class to make sure I wasn't missing anything.

Kay was a fantastic instructor. She was incredibly poised and well-prepared for each class. I was in the 600 range before taking the course and improved to a consistent 700 on practice tests.

Helpful Course

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by score report [?]

I found the course to be one of the most essential parts of my GMAT studying experience. Before starting this course, I felt overwhelmed with the amount of material to study. The format and structure of the course made studying feel very manageable. The homework and practice problems/exams helped me build confidence which enabled me to be calm and collected on exam day. Ryan was a great instructor who brought humor to the class and was clear and patient in his teaching style. I highly recommend this course, especially for those who need a bit of structure to be efficient and effective at studying.
