Profile Review - Deferred enrollment : Ask mbaMission

Dec 19, 2022

Hi, I am a senior looking at deferred mba programs and was wondering if I
should make an attempt for it based on my stats so far.

Stats

School: No name state school in the US

Major: Mathematics

GMAT/GRE Score - yet to take

Undergrad GPA: 3.6+, 1 semester left before graduation

Race/nationality: Asian, international student

Sex: Male

Work Experience

Foreign Military - resource manager (10 months)

- other roles such as trainee and resource assistant (1 year +)

Did school online temporarily while in military, about 1.5-2 semesters worth.

ECs

Trilingual- English as first language and 2 other languages

volunteer/professional experience in construction industry - 2 years
(helped with analyzing various exit strategies for the company)

Upcoming ECs

volunteer to help international students learn different languages/english

Undergraduate research in Math.

Goal of MBA:

equity research analyst perhaps analyzing equities in the construction industry.

Target schools (still deciding which of these to apply to):
HBS 2+2
GSB Deferred Enrollment
Wharton Advance Access
Booth Scholars
Kellogg Future Leaders
Sloan Early Admission
Columbia Deferred Enrollment
Haas Accelerated Access
Goizueta MBA Early Admission

Basically, I'd appreciate feedback if I even have a shot to the target schools
I listed based on my current stats. It would take a lot of effort for me
to pursue the GRE + prepare the apps and so if I know my odds are
next to none, I'd rather focus my energy elsewhere

A high GMAT score will be a mandatory criterion to get into these prestigious schools. Wish you the Best of Luck.

Hi beautifulant, thanks for reaching out. You say 3.6+ GPA, how high above 3.6 is your GPA? Because there's a big difference between a 3.65 and a 3.8 when talking about these competitive deferred programs. I think you could have a shot at some of the programs, but the very top ones (Harvard, Stanford, Wharton) seem pretty tough. Especially since it seems like you have less extracurricular leadership compared to other deferred applicants. It also is indeed difficult to fully evaluate your profile without a test score (which I know doesn't help with the decision whether to take it or not!).

Thanks,
Kate
