Profile Review Deferred Programs M7 Aus Student : Ask Personal MBA Coach

Apr 3, 2022

Hi,
I was wanting to apply for a few of the deferred programs given I am completing my final year of university.

Background

Australian Male (22)

GMAT: 760 (Q49/V45)

Undergrad GPA: 6.0/7.0 (Tier 1 university in Australia, equiv. 3.7/4.0)

Major: Engineering

Additional: First generation university student

Extra Curricular's
- CEO of global student society, approx 7000 members at nearly 200 universities. Have been a part of club for 5 years from local uni up to CEO globally

- Chairperson of university student union. Managed $8m AUM in support for 50,000+ students and chaired the board of directors.

Internships

- Currently working as a strategy/operations associate for high growth start up, supporting on Series A funding and a number of strategic initiatives. Start up is in consumer goods which I am interested to stay in

- 2 Engineering internships at prestigious employers, both globally recognised as Tier 1.

Reasons for deferred MBA and Post-MBA goals

- I have moved away from my interest in engineering due to exposure at my start up, and gaining ability both as CEO of my organisation and in this role I really want to extend my entrepreneurial passion into creating my own start up that aims to solve global problems I have learned so much about in both roles.

- I want to use the MBA to build a solid background to equip me with the skills to undertake this and eventually found my own company.

Programs I'm considering: Harvard 2+2, Stanford, Wharton Moelis, Columbia Deferred MBA, Chicago Booth Scholars, Kellogg Deferred MBA, Yale Silver Scholars, Darden Future Year. Are there any other programs that I should consider given my background and interests?

Hello AusMBA10,

Thanks for reaching out and congrats on the strong GMAT score!

In terms of deferred MBA programs that may be of interest to you, you have covered most of the main ones. You might also consider looking into Berkeley Haas's Accelerated Access and MIT Sloan's Early MBA Admissions programs.

Looking at your profile, you have some good things going for you: high GMAT, leadership experience, and noteworthy internship experiences.

While deferred MBA programs will not hold you to what you write in your essays, you really want to hone your goals and explain how you will be unique. Keep in mind that these goals should be ambitious but attainable. While creating your own start up that aims to solve global problems could be a long-term goal, you will also want to think about what type of position you will be qualified for immediately post-MBA.

Personal MBA Coach can help you fine-tune your goals and set you up for success via our Deferred MBA Packages. Feel free to send a note to scott@personalmbacoach.com to learn more!

Regards,
Personal MBA Coach
