"A passionate and inspired teacher with over 20 years of test prep experience masterfully helping students world-wide achieve their GMAT and b-school dreams… including 16 years as a prized, veteran instructor at Manhattan Prep, the world’s leading GMAT prep company."

Over the years, most of my students at some point end up asking me the inevitable question: how did you end up becoming a GMAT instructor? The answer is that I have always had a passion for inspiring others to learn. I started in high school, tutoring friends in math and then later helping them prep for the SAT. Then a bit later in life, I decided to take the GMAT for the first time, basically in order to teach it.

Now this is the part of the story where I have to be a little pretentious and tell you that I got a 780 that first time – so you’ll trust that I really know the exam. The truth is that getting a high score alone is far from enough to make one a good GMAT instructor. For me, a good teacher is one who can joyfully impart to others both the desire and the ability to learn. But regardless of whom you end up getting to help you with your preparation, make sure that he/she inspires you to be a better version of your test-taking self. The GMAT is a tough exam. It is not the math, the grammar, or the logic, per se, that makes it difficult, but rather the rigorous yet flexible critical thinking skills that must be adopted to navigate its tumultuous waters.

After that first exam, I began my journey as a GMAT instructor while living outside of the U.S., teaching students whose native tongue was not English. However, I gained the bulk of my GMAT teaching experience during my subsequent 16-year tenure at Manhattan Prep (formerly known as Manhattan GMAT). After the founder of Manhattan Prep hired me in the nascent stages of the company in 2003, I quickly found myself in the presence of a small group of highly passionate and skilled educators. There I ended up playing a central role in building the business to what it has become today, the leading name in top-of-the-line GMAT preparation.

But my wife and I revel in adventure, so we left the U.S. (and MPREP’s headquarters in NYC) and headed off to live on a Mediterranean island in late 2013. Years later, we are still here, and I have thankfully used this time to master the craft of online teaching, armed with just Zoom and a tablet. I now teach for the company that I founded, QWEB Prep, which embodies the principles of my unique philosophy and style of teaching. I am also super excited to be developing a set of self-study video courses, which I hope to be able to share with you in the near future.

Josh is an increidble tutor that personalizes learning depending on the person. He helped two of my cousins achieve fantastic scores, a 690 that got one of them in HBS and a 740 that landed the other Stanford. I am still waiting to decide what program to join, but have received offers from outstanding programs.

I was stuck in the dreaded 640 when I first met with Josh. He helped me fine tune not only my quant and verbal, but also my test taking skills so that I could reach a 710.

Josh first assessed my GMAT skills though his own assessment, understood the previous training I had done, and we had an initial meeting to set goals and expectations before we started our journey. This helped target specific areas in quant that I needed improvement with, and to fine tune the verbal areas that were my strengths. He taught me techniques about handling each problem-type and developed his own methodology that is more fine tuned than anything you will find in common GMAT learning materials.

I highly recommend his mentoring and who he is a person: a fantastic human being that you'll feel lucky to have interacted with (especially because he will help you get the score you want!).

Best of luck!!!

I was introduced to Qweb Prep by recommendation from a fellow MBA candidate. At this point in my GMAT journey, I had invested countless hours and $$$ on online self-paced material and even a (virtual) prep course with a live instructor. But after months and months of preparation, I only saw a marginal increase in my overall score.

Josh took a unique approach to a normal diagnostic and was able to quickly detect some of my pain points, both in content and strategy. His introductory session was super enlightening and I could tell he was very knowledgeable about the GMAT exam and the various test prep materials/sites that I was using. This point was incredibly helpful for structuring the tutor sessions and homework assignments. As a student, you can expect to receive personalized homework assignments, session recordings, and supplementary guides and aids that Josh has developed to use. We meet weekly for about 3-4 months, in that short amount of time he helped correct my strategy and approach to quant questions to help me save time as Quant was already my strongest section. For Verbal we spent more time on the curriculum refresh and suddenly certain areas (CR) started to 'click'. Again my timeline was more expedited, so we had to prioritize certain content types over others.

I enjoyed Josh's personable teaching style and appreciated his upfront communication. We had to cancel/reschedule a few times, but Josh was always upfront and prompt in email responses. Additionally, he made sure to update homework assignments and/or provide feedback on submitted work. My section and overall scores after working with Josh increased significantly, especially in comparison to previous exam scores. My 'final' score after working with Josh was not my target score but I was able to cross a pretty meaningful threshold for school admittance and scholarship applications. If I were to re-do this process all over again, I would have begun working with Josh sooner, I have no doubt that additional time would allow me to lock in more of his tips and frameworks.

Josh is an incredible tutor that is extremely knowledgable on all things GMAT! I worked with him for a few weeks/sessions and I was able to increase my score by 30 points in that tight window. Prior to Josh, I had taken the exam a few times and my score remained unchanged. I was afraid that I had plateaued and that a 640 (Q44 V35) was all I would be able to muster but thankfully Josh helped me with the 30 point breakthrough!

A bit about Josh's working style that I particularly liked. Prior to your first session, Josh asks you to take a diagnostic test to see where you are in your prep journey and to identify what your strengths and weaknesses are. Afterwards, he helps you hone in on your weaknesses by sending you detailed worksheets/problem sets on topics of your choice/areas you can improve. In addition, he helps you solve problems in ways you probably wouldn't think of on your own. For example, rather than approaching a problem mechanically, he helps you approach certain problems from a conceptual standpoint. This was invaluable in my preparation because when applicable, you save a good amount of time problem solving!

On a personal note, Josh was very easy going! The sessions with him and the emails exchanged did not feel transactional and he was highly encouraging. Even after letting him know that I saw an improvement and without advertising himself, he encouraged me to consider retaking the exam because I had the potential to get a higher score!

All in all, I wish I had found Josh sooner! I can't recommend him enough for people at all stages of their prep journey!

Josh Braslow is hands down the best teacher I have ever had. He tutored me in both quant and verbal, and with his help, I was able to raise my score by 100 points to 760! Josh goes above and beyond the role of a GMAT tutor by truly connecting with his students and catering to each individual's needs. This is critical for success on a test like the GMAT because students must learn both the subject matter and strategies for how to take the test itself. Like a coach, he supported me in all aspects of the test. He understands the stress imposed by the test and consoled me multiples times when the pressure of the test felt overwhelming.

Josh really knows the GMAT content inside and out. In fact, he personally wrote many of the Manhattan Prep chapters himself.  What made Josh really stand out was his ability to teach the content in a way that I could easily understand. He was always willing and able to change his approach if a concept didn't stick the first time. As a non-native English speaker, this was critical for me in mastering the verbal section.

Having taken the GMAT twice and not achievied my desired score, I got in touch with Josh following a recommendation from a friend.

I was finding it difficult to know where to focus my studies in order to improve my score. After an initial conversation with Josh, he gave me a game plan and assigned me varied exercises. During the course of the next few weeks Josh increased my confidence levels and taught me how to control my test anxiety. He also showed me many shortcuts that helped me solve problems faster and achieve a great score (an increase of 60 points).

I would highly recommend Josh to anyone looking to master the GMAT.

Helped me conquer test anxiety to reach 700+!

Josh helped me achieve a 700+ score that I honestly didn’t think was possible after struggling with the GMAT for 3 years. In 2018, I took a Manhattan Prep course. After 3 attempts and a private tutor, the highest score I achieved was 610. I gave up feeling defeated and pretty much accepted that I wouldn’t be able to score any higher.

In Dec 2020, I decided to retake the GMAT. I used Target Test Prep exclusively for 12-14 hrs/wk, for 4 months and then decided to try tutoring again to more quickly advance my skills. From our first meeting, Josh impressed me. In our 3 months working together, he taught me various problem-solving strategies that I wasn’t learning with TTP’s algebra-only method. Since I was about 70% done with TTP at the time, our first few sessions focused on whatever TTP topics I was working on at the time. Once I finished TTP, we focused more on official practice sets and exams. I met with him on Zoom for 1.5-2 hrs bi-weekly in the early morning before work, which worked great. We focused mainly on quant at first but also worked on CR and SC.

Beyond the content, I also experienced major anxiety while taking practice tests, which led to much lower scores than my effort would suggest. Josh quickly realized that I wasn’t facing a content problem, but could instead benefit from integrating mindfulness into my studies to reduce my anxiety. After a disappointing fourth official GMAT result, he recommended a mindfulness book specific to standardized tests, and we created a study plan that focused on the quality of my studying, rather than the number of hours spent studying. One month after that, I scored a 710, 130 points higher than my lowest 2018 GMAT attempt. I’m thrilled by my results and am so grateful to Josh for helping me achieve the GMAT score of my dreams!

Everyone can imagine that mastering the GMAT requires hard work, persistence, and ambition. However, thinking flexibly is a skill that is understated. Joshua propelled my GMAT score to over 700 by guiding my thought process towards asking the right questions to understand the key takeaways from each GMAT problem. His patience and understanding of complex ideas and different learning styles drove my GMAT success. He had a unique way of challenging my thinking to set up a new framework for attacking problems. He empowers students by providing confidence in attacking the test. Ultimately, Joshua helped me achieve my goal of going to Chicago Booth. The time we spent together was more than just as student and mentor, and I believe that we will absolutely be in touch post-GMAT and post-business school.

Josh was an amazing tutor. I approached him with a very tight timeline of 3 weeks and he quickly mobilized and created a plan to get me to my target score. He first identified my weaknesses then created a calendar with detailed homework assignments for each week, completely removing the burden of planning off my shoulders.

He was also very knowledgeable on the test and helped me see the problems through a lens I hadn’t before. These weren’t "quick tips" but rather ways of thinking that he taught me to adopt. GMAT questions can be rather deceitful, but he breaks each question type down to understandable parts that allow you to see through the tricks of the test writers. In only 20 days, he took me from a Q 38 to a 46, a feat I couldn't have accomplished by simply reviewing math on my own.

Aside from that, he was also very supportive and easy to work with, which definitely helped keep up the morale!

I can genuinely say Josh is the best tutor I’ve ever worked with. He helped me “see” the test as I never had before. I had spent months working away on my own, but there was a fundamental piece that wasn’t “clicking” for me until I connected with Josh. Not only did Josh quickly identify which content and procedural areas I needed extra support in, he helped me realize just how significant my test-taking anxiety was and how severely it was impacting my score.

I think that there are quite a few things that set Josh apart. He clearly knows this test inside and out, as well as the GMAT prep field in general. His knowledge of the prep resources I had been using was so helpful in putting together the best study plan for me. He constantly went above and beyond to help me meet my academic goals, tailoring top-notch resources to my needs. The procedural tips and strategies we covered are excellent, beyond anything I could have picked up in a book, and essential to any significant score improvement (especially on a tight timeframe). He has a system that clearly works, and it was integral to my success on the GMAT.

On a personal note, Josh was a joy to work with. Candidly, the GMAT was a real bear for me, and if the only thing I got out of it was to meet this very kind, supportive, interesting person, then it would have been time well-spent. BUT luckily I also did well on the test, with Josh’s help. He provided genuine, humane support and perspective in an incredibly stressful time. He sent me thoughtful messages before and after my exam days. I very much felt like I had an advocate on my side, rooting for me.

In the end, I scored 730 on the GMAT, raising my Quant subscore from a 38 to a 48. I am beyond grateful for my time working with Josh!
