The changes that may be part of a general global warming trend include an increase in the frequency and severity of hurricanes, a gradual rise in sea level, depleting the ozone layer, and raising the temperature of the earth.

The sentence describes the changes that may be part of a general global warming trend.
So, parallelism is required to be maintained.

(A) depleting the ozone layer, and raising the temperature of the earth
'depleting...' and 'raising..' appears to be modifier for 'rise in sea level' however, from the context of the sentence, this modification appears to be illogical. Incorrect

(B) depleting the ozone layer, and a rise in the earth’s temperature
Same error as in A wrt 'depleting..'. Incorrect

(C) a depletion of the ozone layer, and raising the earth’s temperature
Same error as in A wrt 'raising..' . Incorrect

(D) a depletion of the ozone layer, and a raise of the temperature of the earth
While the parallelism is maintained, the usage of 'a raise' of the temperature is incorrect.

(E) a depletion of the ozone layer, and a rise in the temperature of the earth
Correct. Parallelism is maintained. Meaning is evident.

OFFICIAL EXPLANATION

E

This sentence has what should be a parallel list of nouns, beginning with an increase and a rise, but then the last two items on the list are suddenly verb-like things: depleting and raising. Since it is the last two items that are underlined, these are the items that must change. Choices A, B, and C all have verb-like things in them. Choice D, with two noun-like things, seems tempting at first, but do you say a raise of the temperature? Nope, it’s unidiomatic. Choice E is best.
